Information about Bedar, Almeria

Bedar is located 10-15 minutes from the motorway with direct routes to Barcelona and Malaga, but far enough away from the traffic. It is 30 minutes from any of 6 golf courses in the area. 30 minutes from Mojacar playa. Bedar is unique place to live, it is not like the massed terrace homes like in Alicante. If you like the quiet life then this is the place for you, apart from fiesta time in early August for 3 days. It has a fountain with fresh mountain water from high in the hills that is free and very good to drink or take up to 40 litres a day.

The climate is good, the local people are friendly and so are the europeans living here.

Bedar is a small village where the Spanish local life is unchanged but moves slowly towards the modern era. The locals are extremely friendly and caring, life stands still in Bedar and is a really perfect place to retire, many artists,poets and novelist live within the bondaries of Bedar. It has a steep history of ore mining dating beyond the last war, and also a history of corruption against the church during the last war regards the mine below the village. Bedar is pictureque in January when the Almond trees that fill the hills around Bedar come into bloom, with soft pink blossom everywhere. In October/November time comes the almond and olive harvest, when locals carry out their yearly harvesting.

I lived there from 2000-06 and already have a house still there for sale in the village, and it is a wonderful place to live. Never any trouble, safe, secure and very friendly locals.
