Though Marla Marquez's post above is over 1 year old and Spanish property prices continue to plummet, it seems that the message still hasn't gotten home to property owners in and around Salobrena. Despite there being over 100 or so villas for sale in Salobrena, house prices there are presently between 44% and 72% more expensive that the rest of Spain. One wonders will the fact that Spanish banks are going to off load their toxic property assets on to the property market, starting in January 2011, bring property owners in Salobrena to their senses. This offload will see entities such as Banesto Bank alone offloading 600 villas and other preperties at 50% below current market prices and the offload is scheduled to continue right through 2011 with many banks to follow suit. Do i hear the sound of panic sales??

I was initially very surprised when I looked at Kyero´s housing price index for Salobrena because the average housing price figure is extremely low.

As a real estate developer and real estate agent who specialises in the development and sale of luxury villas, it seems like our calibre of property wasn´t included in the index.

I asked Kyero for clarification and they informed me that the house price index reflects the asking prices of properties advertised on Kyero.com, which is the only data they have access to. Since the majority of estate agents in Salobrena sell apartments, flats, semi-detached or country properties and not villas, it is understandable why the average house price is so low.

Now that Cumbre Villas.com is advertising on Kyero and we only sell high quality, unique detached villas, we imagine the Kyero house price index for Salobrena will start to have a broader base and better represent the market for high end villas that exists here.

Although Salobrena is a small town, there are 4 mature urbanisations that are made up of only luxury villas with great views to the sea, the mountains and the picturesque town of Salobrena with its Moorish castle. Salobrena has been a well kept secret by people looking for great houses in a still typically Spanish and not overly commercial area.

Salobreña is a town on the Costa Tropical in Granada, Spain. It claims a history stretching back 6000 years.

The old town of is a cluster of whitewashed houses and steep narrow streets set around a 10th century Moorish castle. The town sits atop a rocky prominence surrounded by sugar cane fields. New developments spread from the foot of the rock to the coast.

The last remaining cane sugar factory in Europe is located along the coast just west of the village of La Caleta
