La Romana is a village of some 2500 people, located in the foothills of the Sierra del Redclot a few kilometres from Algueña, in the autonomous community of Valencia, Spain. La Romana has been called ’the Village of Pine Trees’.

The village is surrounded by countryside where vineyards and almond orchards are grown. In September the ’Paella in the Park’ is held when a giant paella pan is set up outside and the locals take part in a fiesta.

The area is also noted for the number of quarries producing marble and limestone. Although there is little else of architectural interest in the area, there are a number of cave dwellings which are still in use. The main village is set out on a grid pattern with very few building higher than one storey.
