Cortes de Baza is a typical Andalucian village with various shops and restaurants, school, pharmacy, medical centre, bars and banks and outdoor swimming pool surrounded by the Sierra de Baza and Sierra de Castril mountain ranges. It also has a beautiful Catholic Church with Mudejar architecture dating back to the 16th century, which has recently been named as a Spanish Historic Heritage site. In the spring months the area is vibrant with fields of beautiful poppies and wild flowers and almond blossom. This peaceful area is famous for its friendly people, summer weather and quiet surroundings close to nature making it ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, bird watching etc. A short drive away from Cortes is the lovely Negretin Lake where you can visit one of the two restaurants overlooking the lake, of just take a picnic and enjoy a swim.
Although you are inland and away from the sea, there is an open air municipal swimming pool which is open from July until September with a small café offering snacks, drinks and ice cream.
A short 20 minutes drive from Cortes is the large town of Baza being the capital of the area of that name. Baza is approximately one hour from the historic City of Granada and it´s winter ski slopes. A further 20 minutes along the motorway takes you to the regional airport of Granada.
