The Sil river flows through a stunning canyon with traditional terraced vineyards on the river banks producing wine since Roman times made of Mencia grapes. The Miño river flows between picturesque bends, pleasant river beaches, sunny vineyards, ancient hamlets and beautiful farmhouses. From early medieval times the area was often visited by monks and knights looking for spiritual peace on the sacred riverbanks (Ribeira Sacra). The many churches, convents and monasteries, most of them in Romanesque style, are a testimony of its sacred history.
