The Abedul residence is situated between two seas: the Mediterranean and the Minor Sea (Mar Menor). The residents of this area have got a rare opportunity to choose either to enjoy warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea or the Minor Sea salty lagoon, the biggest salt lake in Europe. The Minor Sea ideally suits for practicing a great many of nautical sports; with its shallow and calm waters, it is ideal for young kids’ swimming and other water activities. When the shores of the Mediterranean Sea could be rough with high waves, the surface of the Minor Sea stays calm.
At the peak of summer season, the temperature of the water in the lagoon reaches +34°C, which is the warmest in Spain.
An average yearly temperature is +17°С for air, and +18 °C for water. Rainfalls are quite rare in this area. The region between the Minor and the Mediterranean Seas has its unique microclimate, balanced by the influence of these two seas. There are no fluctuations in the temperatures: neither burning heat in summer nor snow in winter.
San Pedro del Pinatar is the most popular tourists’ resort.
The history of making salt lakes dates back to ancient times. The therapeutic benefits of the mud from the lake are well appreciated nowadays.
The Minor Sea’s (Mar Menor) mud is a natural coupled sun-water model, with high level of salt. The Minor Sea is special for iodine, salts and minerals combination. The benefits of its therapeutic properties are widely used for example in treatment for rheumatic diseases, arthritis, gout; skin diseases; bone-fracture recovery rehabilitation; throat diseases. Nourishing mud “mask” regenerates and betters the skin’s elasticity, which improves thyroid gland function, regulates immune and nervous systems, decreases cholesterol level. The mud is very effective in treatment of such skin conditions as skin ulcer, abscesses, inflammation, acne and other ailments.
Another important fact is that Abedul residence is in vicinity of the Salinas San Pedro National park, which spreads between the two seas covering the area of 856 hectares and is the space where migratory birds, such as flamingo, ducks, herons come to nest. The park is a part of one of the most interesting ecosystem on the shore.
Many would agree that the Minor Sea (Mar Menor) region is proud to have the healthiest climate in Spain. As it has recently been announced by the World Health Organisation, the Murcia province can boast of having the cleanest air in Europe. Several distinctive features make the Minor Sea a unique place in Europe: there are 320 sunny days a year, clean air, therapeutic muds and spring waters, fresh seafood, wonderful weather all year round and, of course, magnificent sunsets on the Minor Sea (Mar Menor)!
Not far from Abedul Residence there is also a balneotherapeutic spa Archeha in Murcia region, which is one of the main spa – destinations in the country.
This balneotherapeutic spa with thermal springs cover an area of about 200 sq. M in a wonderful Nature Resort Valle de Ricote situated near the river Segura. It was founded in the times of the Rome Empire. For more than 2000 years ago, the spring waters were used for treatment of Roman legion soldiers. Per its content, the Archena mineral spring is classified as serum-sulphur-chloride-natrium-calcium. The spring water’s temperature is +52ºC. The springs are 15 000 years old. These are the thermal springs and are among the oldest on the earth.
