Why move to Arona

Arona has two sides of its triangle bordering the Mediterranean. The resort towns are lively, international and bursting with commercial activities and the rural towns are beset by magnificent scenery.

The rural town of Arona centres around a Plaza of colonial and pre-Hispanic architecture. A walk from there will take you to the Cross of San Antonio, a religious statue with great views down towards the coast.

The coastal portion of Arona has three well-defined areas: the Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos, and Las Galletas-Costa del Silencio. People party in Playa de las Américas at the Veronicas: a stretch of nightclubs, bars and live music venues. Los Cristianos grew from a small fishing village to a heaving harbour, largely because of its busy ferry port, connecting Tenerife to the smaller islands of La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro. It also has an attractive shallow, shell-shaped bay. La Gullets and Silencio are quieter, good for water sports and popular with golfers.

Tenerife is famed for its lunar landscape and the area’s Guaza and Amarilla mountains stay true to form. From there, you can view Mount Teide, the highest peak in Spain. The Punta de la Rasca is a famed whale watching reserve and the Malpais de la Rasca is a nature reserve landscaped by rivers of lava. There is also a zoo and two aqua parks to keep you and your family entertained.

Community

This area has grown exponentially in the last 50 years. The region is an international mixing pot with residents from around the globe.

Property

A high percentage of homes can be found in luxury housing developments, although there are some traditional, rural Canarian houses too.

Amenities

Los Cristianos is the third largest metropolis on the island and has all the facilities residents could ever need.

Transport

A tour guided train travels between Los Cristianos and Playa de las Américas. There’s a bus from Santa Cruz to Las Galletas and Costa del Silencio, Los Cristianos, Arona and neighbouring Vilaflor. The nearest airport is Tenerife South.

Employment

The tourism industry employs the lion’s share of the workforce with the cultivation and trade of bananas a close second.

Health

The Hospital del Sur de Tenerife, on the outskirts of Los Cristianos, is one of two main health centres on the island. Every town centre has a multitude of general practitioners.

Schools

There are numerous schooling options in Arona, including the Wingate School, an international school for all stages of education.

Cost of Living

Transport, housing and local produce are fairly priced, but anything that requires importing is made expensive by the transportation costs.
