Why move to Busot

Busot is quiet, village-like and friendly, but with brilliant links to both the coast and two of Spain’s major coastal cities.

This small but high-altitude town is skirted by a Moorish castle and medieval ramparts that used to be part of the defence system for the city of Alicante. Set amongst the bosky pines of the southern side of the Cabeco d’Or mountain, the name Busot translates to ‘place in the woods’.

The closest seaside resort is El Campello, with beaches that extend for 23 kilometres, a busy fish market and marina. Travelling to La Vila Joiosa or a little further to Benidorm for nightlife, water parks, shopping and modern entertainment is easy. Plus, Busot’s proximity to the dynamic Alicante city centre restaurants, parties and beaches makes it such a convenient location for those who want a country home near a major metropolis.

Sculpted steps cut into the rock-ribbed slopes make for amazing views and unsurpassed outdoor trails for mountain-biking and hiking. The Canelobre Caves are cathedral-like in their acoustics, so worth visiting not only to see the intricate rock formations but also for the regular musical events hosted there. Keen golfers can hop in a car and be in either Bonalba or Alicante Golf Clubs in 10 minutes. The Moors and Christians festival, held a week after Easter, is a big fiesta filling the streets with processions and re-enactments.

Community

There is a well-established expat community in Busot made up from retirees and people who want to work in the nearby towns and cities but live in the quiet of the country.

Property

The small residential centre is village-like but surrounded by modern urbanisations like Placita de la Lloma, Llano de los Pastores, Teular, Hoya de los Platos and Bonalba Alta. Most of the homes in Busot are large, detached villas but a few village properties do come on the market, including town-houses and apartments.

Amenities

There is a small town centre with a fresh bakery and grocery store (open 10am – 10pm) and you’ll find local coffee bars and restaurants. You might need to travel by car to either Alicante or Benidorm for a larger shopping trip.

Transport

Although Busot is amazingly close to Alicante airport by road, it’s not great by public transport.  Busot does not have the extensive tram connection the rest of the Costa enjoys. However, El Campello is connected to Alicante by both the L1 and L3 metro lines.

Employment

Busot is near the major conurbations of Benidorm and Alicante; it has good international links, and so web-based, freelance or commuter jobs are ideal.

Health

There are four independent doctor surgeries listed in Busot, and the nearest medical centre is Centro Salud Mutxamel, on the outskirts of Alicante.  Very near to that is the Universitario San Juan De Alicante Hospital.

Schools

There is both an infant and senior Spanish school within the town; international students needn’t travel far either: Alicante hosts multiple international schools including King’s College, and The British School Of Alicante, which is about a 30 minute drive away.

Cost of Living

Busot’s size means that local entertainment is reasonably priced. Property costs suffer a little from its commuter belt status, but even at the higher end, your budget with still go further than in its coastal counterpart, El Campello. Family homes in Busot are certainly better value for money than Alicante itself.
