Why move to La Nucia

With a name which translates as ‘delicious’ you’ll get a taste of the sweet life here. Stunning surroundings and proximity to the coast make La Nucia the perfect Spanish hideaway.

It’s hard to believe that this pretty town is just seven kilometres away from the bright lights and tower blocks of Benidorm. It couldn’t be more different: located in a verdant fruit filled valley, with the dramatic peaks of the Puig Campana mountains casting a welcome shade, La Nucia is built in the classic style of the region. In the old town, you’ll want to spend hours strolling through the spotless streets of colourful houses, shops and restaurants. Alternatively you can simply watch life go by next to the waterfall in the idyllic La Favara park

Beyond the village reaches are a number of small developments popular with expats and Spanish alike. This relatively undiscovered gem is perfectly situated to access the coast and is within striking distance of both Alicante and Valencia. Its inland location and proximity to the mountains helps contribute to a climate that never quite reaches the uncomfortable highs of the coast in summer.

Community

Among its 20,000 people you’ll find a healthy mixture of expats and Spanish. Residents are drawn to this beautiful part of Spain from the UK, Germany, the Netherland, Scandinavia and France.

Property

This isn’t the cheapest place to buy in Spain but neither is it quite as astronomical as some of the fashionable towns of the northern Costa Blanca. But it’s well worth it. Property ranges from pretty town houses, to apartments and villas of all types. You might also want to explore the numerous urbanisations that have sprung up in the immediate vicinity.

Amenities

Despite its size, La Nucia is great for shopping, with a popular fashion outlet store and a choice of supermarkets offering local and international produce. The village hosts a well known market on Sundays, bringing bargain hunters from all over the region in search of second-hand treasures. Golfers will want to visit the 27 hole course (the only one in the region), while others might prefer the classy spa and impressive sports facilities.

Transport

La Nucia is within touching distance of some major Costa Blanca attractions, many of which are accessible by bus, or a short car journey. For longer distance journeys, Alicante airport is less than an hour’s drive

Employment

While opportunities in the village itself are limited to work in the tourism or property, you are in comfortable commuting distance of busy Benidorm and Alicante.

Health

La Nucia has its own doctors, pharmacy and dentist where you will find staff who speak a variety of languages including English. The nearest hospital is just a short trip down the road in Benidorm.

Schools

As well as Spanish state schools for all ages, La Nucia has its own English language school: Elian’s, where younger children can receive a bilingual education before moving on to the British National Curriculum.

Cost of Living

Although not the cheapest part of the Costa Blanca, the variety of shops here and the proximity to Benidorm mean it is perfectly possible to live within a budget.
