Why move to Los Montesinos

A healthy climate, fantastic natural environment and a cosmopolitan community make this the ideal location from which to enjoy the delights of the Costa Blanca.

On the north-eastern banks of Las Salinas, a dazzling pink hued salt lake, you’ll find Los Montesinos, a typical but by no means average town of the southern Costa Blanca. It’s not a tourist resort but has nevertheless attracted many permanent residents from all over the world. In this friendly town the locals and expats enjoy socialising in the local square at sunset or celebrating together at one of the many lively annual fiestas.

Many will be attracted by its location, away from the hurly burly of the coast with some of the Costa Blanca’s best beaches just a 15 minute drive away. Also in the area you will find an 18-hole golf course and water park. With superb weather all year round and a unique climate created by the salt lakes and surrounding mountains, you’ll be able to make the most of the great outdoors. Walk around the shores of the lake and enjoy a breathtaking nature reserve that is a great place to see the region’s bird life. Continue by foot or bike down the old railway line and you’ll arrive at the beaches of Torrevieja without breaking much of a sweat!

Community

This is a small town that rarely feels quiet. The official population of 2,800 is usually swelled by the presence of people from the surrounding urbanisations. It might be home to a large expat community but Los Montesinos is a town that retains its Spanish identity and traditions.

Property

You’ll find a good range of property in and around Los Montesinos, ranging from affordable apartments and townhouses in town, to detached villas in the surrounding countryside and urbanizations.

Amenities

There are a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants together with shops and a street market every Friday evening. It’s the access to the outdoors that is the big attraction here, with an open air municipal swimming pool or walks through local parks and gardens. Head a little way out of town and you won’t have to look far to find one of the many world class golf courses.

Transport

The town is situated near the motorway, making it a good location to quickly access the region’s major cities. You won’t have to travel far for airports, with Alicante and Murcia both around a half hour’s drive. Unfortunately, there are currently no bus services to Los Montesinos.

Employment

You’re well positioned to find work in bustling Torrevieja, where there are opportunities within the tourist industry. If you want to pursue other options, Murcia and Alicante are within commuting distance.

Health

Medical services in town include a health centre and pharmacy and it’s a short drive to the excellent facilities of Torrevieja, including a new public hospital.

Schools

Local Spanish speaking schools are attended by both local children and those from the large expat community. If you want to follow an English curriculum, the Phoenix International School and the El Limonar School in Villamartín are both around 30 minutes drive.

Cost of Living

As this is a largely residential town, you won’t be paying the more inflated prices found in some of the seaside resorts. With access to a good range of shops and markets, it’s possible to live modestly but still enjoy the good life offered by the Costa Blanca.
