Since our very first episode back at the beginning of January 2018, when we interviewed Graham and Sally who were making the move from West Yorkshire in the UK to Murcia in Spain, our Kyero buyers podcast series has gone from strength to strength.
We’ve recorded and published regular episodes with all kinds of buyers, giving insights into real life expat stories, the process of moving to Spain, and tips and advice to make sure everything goes without a hitch.
Today we’re looking at some of the reasons why podcasting has become so popular as a marketing tool, and how you can get involved and benefit from the success of our podcast series too.
The rise of podcasting
Podcasts, if you’re not familiar with the term, are audio files or digital recordings that are shared and listened to online. These could be readings or people talking about any number of subjects from business, to mindfulness, or – as in our case – buying a property in Spain.
Although the first podcasts originated as far back as the 1980s, alongside the advent of the internet and the availability of portable digital devices, it wasn’t until 2004 that they really began to rise in popularity.
Fast forward to mid-2019 when Edison Research claimed that 32% of people aged 12 or over in the US have listened to a podcast in the last month and there were over 30 million podcast episodes available on the internet. While Ofcom reported that as of 2018, 6 million adults in the UK tune in to an episode at least once per week, a figure which has doubled over the last few years and continues to rise.
The medium of the podcast is not going anywhere soon.
Why are podcasts so popular for marketing?
Podcasts offer an easy-to-digest format that’s an alternative to reading on-screen, meaning they’re great for people who, for example, are commuting by car or training at the gym. Podcasts often appeal to a different audience than traditional blogs. And what’s more, that appeal is global – perfect if you’re advertising property internationally.
The beauty of the spoken word is that it adds a ‘human’ element to the communication, increasing trust and helping the listener feel they’re getting to know the speaker, and by association the brand or business, better.
The Kyero podcasts, in particular, share real life stories about property purchases in Spain. We make it clear who the agent was in each case, meaning listeners get an insight into what it’s like to purchase a property through that agent. There’s real power in spoken recommendations – psychologically they’re more likely to lead to referrals and enquiries than written ones.
How can you get involved?
You can benefit from our established Kyero podcast series and use it as a marketing tool too.
If you’ve recently worked with some clients who you know had a good property story or an interesting experience, why not put us in touch with them and we’ll help them tell their story? We’ll handle all the interviewing, production and publishing on our site.
Once complete, you’ll be able to share the episode with potential clients by way of providing them useful information about the process of moving as well as, hopefully, a glowing account of what it’s like to work with you.
And of course you’ll also be able to promote it via your own social media, such as your business Facebook page, to help boost your credibility and encourage even more buyers to work with you!
At the time of writing we’re nearing 60 podcast episodes and we’re always on the lookout for more interviewees. If you think you’ve got a client who would come across well, we’d love to hear from you.
