El Cotillo is a beautiful village situated on the northern west coast of Fuerteventura. The village is set around the small pretty harbour that is mostly used by local fishermen and local sailing enthusiast. This harbour is actually relatively new; the old harbour is only a short walk to the north over the headland that separates the two. There are several bars and restaurants close to the old harbour where you can relax and watch the astounding sunsets. Just a couple of miles to the north of El Cotillo there is a lighthouse which is also a fishing museum, a great destination for an afternoon stroll.

There are miles of golden beaches here and even on a busy day they are too big to be overcrowded. To the north are the lagoon beaches of shallow clear water and white sand contrasting against the black volcanic rock. The biggest of the beaches, La Concha, has a large car park and a beach bar. It is very popular with locals and tourists alike. The smaller lagoon beaches are favourite places for naturists.

On the other side of the village are the cliffs and the Playas Grandes so called by their amplitude. The waves and the wind are quite strong so many surfers and water-sports enthusiasts often go to these beaches.
