Why move to Caleta De Velez

An alternative to the busier resorts of the western Costa del Sol, Caleta de Velez is perfect for anyone looking for fantastic seafood, fine beaches and a relaxed village atmosphere.

Unlike many towns on the Costa del Sol where fishing has practically vanished from view, in Caleta de Velez you’ll find this element of traditional Andalucian life still very much in evidence.

Head to the harbour with its many excellent restaurants and you can sample one of hundreds of varieties of fish and seafood. The sea is central to life here, with a large marina and a quiet (by local standards) beach. You’ll also find enjoyable distractions in town after dark when the area around the seafront promenade springs to life.

Community

The east end of the Costa del Sol tends to be a little quieter than the west and Caleta de Velez currently has 3,600 residents, although with the adjoining urbanisations this stretch of coast can feel significantly more populated.

Property

House prices here tend to be a little lower than some of the Costa del Sol’s more famous resorts. Choose from a wide variety of modern apartments, villas and townhouse style properties with many more to be found in the neighbouring urbanisations such as Baviera Golf.

Amenities

This port town has excellent facilities including a marina and facilities for a variety of water sports. You’ll find many bars and restaurants along the promenade, with a selection of shops around town.

Transport

Caleta de Velez is close to the coastal motorway and is around a 30 minute drive from Malaga and its airport. If you are without your own transport regular buses are available, taking you as far as Nerja in the east and Torrox to the west

Employment

Unless you are a fisherman, you’ll find most of the work here in tourism or property. For a wider range of opportunities, Malaga is within easy commuting distance.

Health

There is no health centre in Caleta de Velez, however it is just a few minutes drive to the nearest facility in Torre del Mar and the nearest fully equipped hospital is 10 minutes away in Velez Malaga.

Schools

You can choose from several Spanish state schools in the neighbouring towns with the nearest international schools around a 30 minute  journey away in either Malaga or Almunecar.

Cost of Living

It is slightly cheaper to live east of Malaga than to the west and with a good range of budget supermarkets in town you should be able to keep your spending reasonable.
