Why move to La Marina

Move here for some of the best weather in the world and easy access to a range of excellent local amenities where English is the main language.

Located on the Costa Blanca between Santa Pola and Alicante to the north, Guardamar and Torrevieja to the south, La Marina is split into two parts: the old coastal town and beach area, and the purpose built residential development (urbanisation La Marina), which is slightly more inland. The area enjoys a privileged Mediterranean climate: hot summers are tempered by cooling sea breezes and winters are mild thanks to protection by surrounding mountains against the cold North winds. This was recognised in 1986 by the World Health Organisation, who recommended the climate of the area as one of the most equitable in the world. Averaging 325 sunny days per year and temperatures exceeding 20 degrees, it’s easy to see why the area is so popular for buyers looking for a place in the sun.

It’s no surprise that La Marina is very popular with foreign buyers – so much so that the area has the highest proportion of foreign-born residents in Spain, most of whom are British. This means that English is the main language spoken in the many shops, bars, and restaurants here. Speaking of amenities, the area has virtually everything you could need – there are four supermarkets, a newsagent, a veterinary surgery, optician and a bank.

It’s not just practical needs that are catered for either, with a host of leisure facilities including go-karting, two aqua parks and a sports and entertainment complex with regular events including live music. You’re within walking distance of the stunning Guardamar sand dunes and some beautiful beaches including Playa los Tusales and Playa el Rebollo.

If you don’t mind venturing further afield, hop in the car and you’ll arrive at the excellent La Marquesa Golf club in Rojales in just fifteen minutes. There is also some stunning countryside, including the largest palm grove in Europe at nearby Elche, which has been declared a world heritage site. Within 30 minutes, you can get to Alicante airport which gives you access to most of Europe, though the city alone is worth a visit.

All major towns and cities are within easy reach; the area has excellent road access and a reliable bus service. The Vega bus goes to the beach 2km away.

You won’t find many openings in La Marina itself but if you are willing to commute to Alicante or Torrevieja, there are opportunities in the tourism and service industries.
