Why move to San Miguel De Salinas

If you’re looking for the peace and quiet of a Spanish village along with easy access to the sights and delights of the coast then this location - often overlooked by tourists - is perfect.

With its proximity to the sea, golf courses and an array of excellent shops, San Miguel de Salinas is a small town that has it all. This friendly community is considerably more relaxed than you’ll find in some of the more built up towns along the nearby coast. With a growing number of residences and a thriving social scene, it is an attractive alternative location.

In the centre of town you’ll find Spanish village life going on as it has done for hundreds of years, with the church, local shops and a lively square. You’ll experience excellent weather for most of the year and be able to enjoy a healthy lifestyle. Whether it’s playing tennis, taking long walks in pine forests, around lakes or through orange, lemon and almond groves, San Miguel is a place for you to pause and enjoy life while drinking in the fine views of the mountains and Mediterranean.

Community

San Miguel de Salinas has grown from a small Spanish village, almost doubling in size to accommodate its current population of six thousand people. A new community comprised of residents from over 60 different countries is mainly situated in the surrounding countryside and nearby urbanisations. Wherever you come from you will find a warm welcome from Spanish and expats alike.

Property

In the old town you’ll find a mix of classic rustic houses and modern apartments, while the immediate surroundings are where you’ll find everything else: from luxury villas to more modest properties, many with shared pools.

Amenities

Despite its size, the town is well catered for with excellent restaurants, a small supermarket and a variety of local shops. There’s a colourful Wednesday street market for fresh fruit, vegetables and more. It’s possible to survive without having to make frequent trips out of town but if you do need something extra there are large shopping centres in nearby Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa.

Transport

You will probably want a car if you choose to live here, although there are buses to the coast several times a day. If you don’t enjoy driving it’s perfectly possible to get around the region with a little forward planning. The nearest airport is Murcia San Javier, a half hour’s drive away.

Employment

This is a small inland town, so you’ll likely need to commute for work. The cities of Alicante and Murcia are both under an hour away and there is work to be found in the booming tourist towns along the coast.

Health

With a 24-hour medical centre, dentist and pharmacy in town you’ll be well served for your health needs. The nearest large public hospital is only 20 minutes away in Torrevieja.

Schools

Children can be publicly educated at primary and secondary level within San Miguel itself. The Spanish schools are experienced in helping children with little or no Spanish but if you’d rather go the private route, there are two English language International schools in the region.

Cost of Living

Due to its size and lack of big supermarkets, you may well pay a little extra to live in San Miguel, but it is still well within the reach of the average budget.
